How did you adjust (your lesson, a technique, or mindset) to have more equity for all students in your group?
My group last week had a lot of energy and a very hard time quieting down to listen. This was not true for every single student, but for a good number of them. I noticed that many of them had a hard time sitting still and following instructions.
I didn’t want the students who had a lot of energy to miss out on any of the things their peers were learning, and I also didn’t want the quieter members of the group to not have an opportunity because they weren’t able to listen to instructions because of being distracted by other students behavior.
I decided one way I could change my technique to create more equity for all the students in my group would be to allow the opportunity to get their wiggles out before starting in on an activity that required them listening to instructions.
I think that this technique was able to create a more safe and comfortable environment for the group as a whole since they knew that before a more low energy activity we could do a high energy game. Then the students were more easily able to follow instructions, meaning that none of the students had to miss out on any of aspects of their week due to having some wiggles, or being distracted by peers that did.
