What is something you know your group (or a single student) learned this week, and what evidence do you have for it?

I felt that my group learned many things this week, but it was sometimes hard to see clear evidence of this. One of the ways I saw evidence of student learning most obviously was during our investigation on crab population and location at the harbor. After the investigation, we compiled all the students’ data and then asked if any of the students knew how to find an average. One student volunteered to explain how to do it for the first location. After she taught that, we called on a student who did not have prior knowledge of averages to explain how to find the average for the second location. This student was also able to explain what he was doing with which numbers and why. Finally, for the last location, the students found the average working on their own. Walking around, I was able to see if students had understood how to find the average on their own, and all of them were successful in finding a close approximation of the number.
